权能不可测度
“就是那独一不死、住在人不能靠近的光里，是人未曾看见、也是不能看见的，要将他显明出来。但愿尊贵和永远的权能都归给他。阿门。” 《提摩太前书》六：16
关于真身自身的奥秘，是不能测度不可用理智研究的。我们只可存着战兢的心称赞他的威荣，因为他的权能是深邃奥秘而不可探讨的。他没有把他自己的原原本本启示于我们。
因此我们不可寻究上帝的本性和他隐藏的旨意。因为这是与我们不相干的，他也不愿意这与我们有什么相干。照样他尚有许多计划没在《圣经》中启示于我们。因此我们只可相信《圣经》中所有的道理，至于关乎不可测度之事最好不要过问。上帝也不曾吩咐我们去研究这些神秘之事。我们只可按照《圣经》明显可以了解的道理行事为人，而不可牵涉到妙不可测的问题。关乎神的住处是人不能靠近的，是人未曾看见，也是不能看见的。像这样深奥秘密之事我们最好不必追求。这也是保罗在《提摩太前书》六章所说的意思。我们确信上帝，靠近他，因为他让我们接近他，也就是接近成为人身又被钉十字架的耶稣基督。上帝的一切智慧都隐藏在他的里面。这也是保罗的意思。在他里面我们已经得着了丰丰富富的恩典。这是我们都知道的，也是应该知道的。（马丁路德《论意志的捆绑》）

We say, as we have said before, that the secret will of the Divine Majesty is not a matter for debate, and the human temerity which with continual perversity is always neglecting necessary things in its eagerness to probe this one, must be called off and restrained from busying itself with the investigation of these secrets of God’s majesty, which it is impossible to penetrate because he dwells in light inaccessible, as Paul testifies [1 Tim. 6:16]. Let it occupy itself instead with God incarnate, or as Paul puts it, with Jesus crucified, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, though in a hidden manner [Col. 2:3]; for through him it is furnished abundantly with what it ought to know and ought not to know.
