Believe, There Would Be No Want.
Here you may say: 「How are they rich, when Paul and Elijah and Elisha were poor? David was driven out of his kingdom by his own son, and other saints lived in great poverty?」 Answer: They had their treasury, coffers, and cellars with God, in a place where no thief can steal them. They know they have enough in God, and even though they do not have it in such a manner that their bags bulge and their coffers are full, yet they are sure God will feed them. And even though they must suffer want for a while as God tempts them, yet God does not fail them; they will eat even if the heavens have to rain down bread.
Elisha once had to feed about a hundred men (2 Kings 4:42–44), and he had no more than twenty barley loaves. His servant grumbled and said: 「What, can I feed a hundred men on that?」 Elisha said: 「Give to the men that they may eat; for thus says the Lord: ‘They shall eat and have some left.’ 」 And he laid it before them that they might eat, and there was some left.
That was easy. If we only could believe, there would be no want. Our Lord God is a good Goldsmith who can turn one gulden into more than a hundred thousand. It does not depend on cash reserves, and he who has an unbelieving heart will not get as far with a thousand guldens as he who trusts God will get with one gulden. (AE 13:400-401)
