Behold The Lamb of God
John 1:29 Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Here John turns the people away from himself toward Christ, saying, “Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.” Through my teaching, he says, I have first made you sinners, condemning all your works and telling you that you must despair of yourselves. But in order that you should not likewise despair of God, behold, I will now show you how you can be rid of all your sins and attain salvation.
You cannot strip yourselves free from sin; neither can you make yourselves holy through good works. That is another person’s work. I cannot do it either, but i can point to him who can. He is this Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. He, and he alone, and no one else in heaven and on earth, takes sin upon himself, so fully that you yourself cannot even atone for the smallest sin. He must take upon himself alone not only your sin but the whole world’s sin; not some of the world’s sin, but all the sins of the world, be they great or small, many or few. This, then, is preaching and hearing the true gospel, and beholding the finger of John, that he may show you the Lamb of God.
If you can believe that this voice of John is a harbinger of truth and follow the direction of his finger and behold the Lamb of God bearing your sin, you have won the victory. You have become a Christian, a master over sin and death and hell and all things. And so your conscience is gladdened, and you will love the gentle Lamb of God.
